Dr. Jim Schiffbauer, professor of Geology, was recently awarded an $867,223 National Science Foundation grant, which was developed in part with the Broader Impacts Network! This grant will provide funding for a new, custom-built scanning electron microscope (SEM), which Dr. Schiffbauer will use for his research on the processes of fossilization. Through his grant, Dr. Schiffbauer will host a public outreach program, where the community will be able to learn about microscopes, and SEM training for late-stage graduate students and early-stage faculty will also be available.
Dr. Schiffbauer has also recently received the Provost’s Outstanding Junior Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award. Click here for the article about these awards.
